Below are guidelines for typical entertainment packages. Daughters of the New Moon is happy to work with you to customize a performance to your specific event's needs.
Whenever
possible,
to assure that a performer will be available, ~ for a solo performance please contact us a minimum of 1 week in advance ~ ~ for a troupe performance please contact us a minimum of 3 weeks prior to the event ~ The more advance notice, the better our performance for you will be. Dates and details to be mutually agreed upon. To hold the date for your event a contract and 50% deposit may be required. A clean, obstruction free area is necessary for performance. Please provide your own sound system for the best quality sound. All proceeds go to continuing efforts to participate in events and to provide scholarships for dancers to participate in annual training workshops sponsored by the troupe, as well as national and international training and workshops. Becoming
an interactive audience
Below
are some common words that you can use to
encourage dancers (and
other members of the audience) during the performance:"Opa!" (pronounced: oh-Pa), the equivalent of bullfighting's "Olé", translates to "Well Done" "Hizzy Hizzy!" translates to "Shake Shake" or "Shake it Baby!", commonly called during drum solos. "Jamilah" (pronounced: jah-Mee-la) translates to "Beautiful", common during slower pieces but appropriate any time. "Ya Habibi" (pronounced: Yah ha-bee-bee) translates to "Beautiful One" or "Beautiful Dancer"; general term of encouragement "Ya Su" translates to “Yes”; a general term of encouragement. “Yallah” (pronounced Yah-La) translates to “Good Job!”, common during faster dances Other 'sound effects' include: "Rrrrrrr" (rolled 'r's) - general sound of encouragement. "Ssssss" unlike in melodrama performances, this call is used during slow songs to encourage the dancer's slow, graceful, or sinuous movements. A 'zagarheet' - a fast high falsetto 'lalalala' used for celebrations (anytime we dance it's a celebration!) If you are too busy enjoying the performance to call out, clapping along to the music is always welcome and appreciated. Tipping: Tipping
the dancer is
another way to interact and show your appreciation of the performance.
There are several appropriate ways to do so, depending on
your and the dancer's level of comfort. Most commonly there
will be a basket set out where tips may be placed. Other
options include a "money
shower" (a fun interaction where an audience member tosses
bills over the head of the dancer), handing it to the dancer or tucking
it into her costume where she directs you to do so, handing it to her
after the show, or including it in the payment.

action? Check
